Lionel was a police officer, best known for being the partner of Lieutenant Kellaway. They started the investigation of Stanley Ipkiss and "The Big-Head Killer",[1] but after four months since his disappearance, Kellaway gave up the investigation.[2] Unaware that Kellaway had come into possession of The Mask,[3] Lionel continued the investigation when the killer reappeared, although this time as a vigilante.[4] Lionel was almost killed while trying to stop The Mask, but Kellaway controlled his instincts and spared his partner.[5]
When Kellaway was in turn attacked and almost killed by gangsters, Lionel visited him at the hospital, despite the fact that the man was in coma.[6][7][8]
